Machen's 30th B-day Getaway!

For Machen's BIG 30th b-day this year he requested that we get away just the TWO of us for the weekend. We chose Asheville, NC since it was only an hour & a half from home. I was excited for the chance to get away for prob. the first & last time for a long time with another baby on the way. Brianna was a very big girl & stayed with my sister (Laurie) & her hubby. She amazed all of us with how well she did without Mommy & Daddy around. Almost a little "scary" that she did so well without us! :) Of course, she had great caretakers! :) Here are some shots from our trip...

We enjoyed bumming around downtown Asheville. It's a very "artsy" town with lots of little shops, cafe's, & musicians on each street corner. The weather was so nice (60's & sunny) that we were able to eat outside at this this restaurant. (Can you tell I've "grown" into my third trimester!) :)

We stayed in a "villa" in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was basically a fully furnished little "home" with everything we needed. We could have stayed longer had we not missed Brianna so much! :)

Machen enjoying the pretty view from the villa's little deck.

We enjoyed our wood burning fireplace very much!

We couldn't figure out how to get the timer to work on my camera, so we had to make do with just holding the camera out in front of us. A little "cheesy" but oh well. :)

Our second day there we toured the Biltmore...America's largest residential home. It was amazing. Unfortunately it was cold, rainy, & foggy so my pics didn't turn out the greatest. Kind of gives it a spooky look!

They gave us umbrellas while we waited outside in the rain.

Machen enjoyed all the architectural details, while I enjoyed all the decor inside each room.
We had a wonderful time together & were very grateful for a chance to get away! But, we did find it difficult not to talk about Brianna & were very anxious to get back to our little girl. ;) Thanks again Laurie & Rich for making this trip possible for us!

I'm so looking forward to touring the Biltmore one day...another friend of mine actually brought me back a brochure when they went a short time ago, so it's fun to say I "know" this mansion you visited!! Praise the Lord for great family to watch Brianna so you and Machen could have time together.

Dear Lisa and Machen,
What fun you must have had. Happy Belated Birthday Machen. How does it feel to be in the thirties with us old folks:)???
I enjoyed my visit with you Lisa the other day. We need to do it again soon before the baby comes when we have more time.
When my mom comes, Lord willing, we are going to go to the Biltmore also. If you go to the visitor center in Ashville, NC they give you a discount on the package. The MP3 player plus the ticket for $31 I believe. (For all of you future Biltmore visitors:)

Hurray for one last getaway! I hope you and Machen came back refreshed. Only 2 months to go before we meet our little boys! We can't wait to see your litle man. :)
